Position Description and Qualifications: Position Description
The Communications Coordinator ensures clear, consistent and effective communications; promotes a positive public image; and helps understand, engage and connect teachers to Inside Education’s programs and services. This role reports to the Executive Director, and is responsible for the following activities:

Communications Planning
Developing annual strategic communications plans, annual communications budgets, and appropriate communications policies.

Marketing and Promotions
School Teacher Relations (Primary Audience)
Developing, writing and distributing the electronic teacher newsletter. Coordinating public presence at teacher conventions and exhibits Developing and maintaining relationships with school boards, science and social studies education community
Defining meaningful metrics, tracking success of promotional efforts (eg. Google Analytics, formal/informal audience surveys)

Website, Social Media
Updating content on the website (WordPress CMS) and managing sites externally linking to ours. Developing content for social media accounts (eg. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Vimeo) Managing digital assets inventory (photos, impact stories, logos, artwork) Liaising with contractors (as necessary and where prudent) in producing visually appealing reports, promotional pieces, etc.

Partner/Donor Relations
Producing stakeholder reports and Society Annual Report
Writing and distributing the quarterly e-newsletter, Inside Edge
Coordinating the production of partner recognition/appreciation materials (eg. photo books)

Media Relations
Developing key messages for media releases
Coordinating issues management/crisis communications
Monitoring Google Alerts and maintains archives of media coverage

Visual Communications
Working with the Program Director, coordinating the production side of promotional materials and classroom resources. This will involve some layout and design as well as working with contractors, working with printers, video production companies and other outside vendors)

Post secondary education in public relations, communications or marketing. Some consideration will be given to experience augmenting formal education and training.

Engaging, outgoing personality with an ability to communicate using today’s technology and good, old fashioned, ‘face-to-face’ engagement.

Technical abilities including website maintenance and simple design (using WordPress). Comfort and skill using Adobe Indesign.

Attention to detail alongside creativity in writing, communicating and designing our external media.

Creative use of social media – helping maintain and expand the ‘voice’ of Inside Education.

Experience working in the not-profit sector will be seen as a strong asset.
