Position Title: Communications Coordinator, Media and Member Relations

Position Description and Qualifications: Summary
Our team is looking for an experienced Communications Coordinator to provide thorough and enthusiastic support in the areas of Media and Member Relations. You will have the opportunity to exercise ownership over a number of projects, while at the same time working in a highly team-based environment. We are leaders in the chiropractic industry, and as such, we are looking for a person who is highly motivated, organized, responsible and creative.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate understanding for the processes of traditional and new media, as well as a commitment to maintaining positive relationships and effective communication with our membership.

Major Responsibilities

Media Relations

  • Act as a liaison between the organization, our members and the media
  • Work with staff and members to develop compelling content to distribute/pitch to Alberta-based media
  • Respond to media requests, and assist members in preparation for interviews, including developing key messages and providing media training
  • Provide assistance with issues management and crisis communications
  • Utilize our media intelligence platform to create outreach strategies and monitor media trends
  • Analyze and provide statistics related to media relations for strategic planning purposes, program evaluation and reporting

Member Relations

  • Develop and coordinate e-newsletters and member resource material including web-based and social content, info packets, presentations and print materials
  • Support the organization in creating opportunities for members to make meaningful connections with their patients and wider communities
  • Provide coaching and assistance to members for presentations, social media, advertising and marketing
  • Support special projects as needed

Marketing and Promotions Program (MAPP)

  • Coordinate MAPP partnership schedules, activities and deliverables
  • Analyze and report on MAPP partnerships as needed

Other Tasks

  • Writing, editing and printing coordination support for blogs, reports, newsletters, events, association materials and publications
  • Develop design projects as required (e.g. presentations and signage for projects and events, promotional materials and member support pieces)
  • Occasional evening/weekend work and/or travel required
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Degree or Diploma in communications, advertising, journalism, marketing or public relations from post-secondary institution preferred; an equivalent combination of experience and/or coursework may be considered
  • At least two years of experience in a communications or public relations position
  • Writing and editing experience in CP style including writing for web, print, media and marketing collateral
  • Media relations experience and understanding of how to manage media interviews
  • Experience in member/volunteer support and coordination
  • Communications planning, implementation and program management
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web and social media platforms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience with graphic design, including Adobe Creative Suite products
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines without compromising quality and accuracy
  • Comfortable working as part of a team as well as independently
