Public relations and news media: Navigating the new landscape (March 16)

Rob McAnally, Managing Editor, CTV Edmonton
Tim Spelliscy, Former Station Manager for Global Edmonton (CITV) and Vice President of the Prairie Region

Join us to learn from two of Edmonton’s award-winning news media professionals. These two will speak from the heart about the current news media world we’re living in. They will also share their perception of how the communications landscape has changed and the effect these changes have made to their industry. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to ask questions and hear them share their personal tips and tools on what works when you’re pitching a story.

Rob McAnally
Rob is a long-time Edmonton newsman. His love of the news began when he was a paper delivery boy in his early teens. He spent the early portion of his career as a camera operator before moving to Los Angeles to work for CTV National News. Rob returned to Edmonton in 2007 as a Videojournalist for CTV Edmonton. Since then he has worked in news promotion and a producer for various CTV Edmonton newscasts. He is now Managing Editor, running the day to day operations of the heritage station. Rob takes great pride in following in the footsteps of some Edmonton icons who have held the same position. When he’s not on twitter he’s working tirelessly to ensure CTV Edmonton remains a trusted source of news and information for Central and Northern Alberta.

Tim Spelliscy
I’ve just retired after 42 years of working in every area of the broadcast media business from reading radio news in Northern Alberta to hosting Oilers telecasts on ITV for 12 years and eventually settling in the corner office as Vice President of Global Television for the prairie region. I’ve been in the middle of dramatic change over four decades in our industry and tried to ease journalists through that process. Recently I’ve been dealing regularly with questions and concerns about the future of local news which is facing tremendous challenges. I’ve also provided media training for many organizations, agencies and firms in the public and private sector. I’m always excited to share my views on how public relations professionals can work with the media and how all of us can embrace the change that’s happening without losing too much sleep.
