Position Title: Family Communications Co-ordinator

Position Type: Full time – permanent

Position Description and Qualifications: The position
Reporting to the associate director, marketing & communications, the family communications co-ordinator will plan, implement, manage and grow the family program to achieve timely, measurable community engagement and communications objectives that further the Foundation’s mission. This role supports Foundation teams and fundraising initiatives through strategic relationship building with Stollery families, and writing engaging and inspiring family stories that promote the Foundation’s brand and vision.

Stollery family program

  • Develop and maintain an annual Stollery family communications plan to ensure measurable objectives are met in a timely and effective manner.
  • Identify and recruit new families to grow the Foundation’s level of support in the community.
  • Maintain and nurture existing family relationships by actively engaging and educating them in the work of the Foundation.
  • Co-ordinate and support Stollery family participation in Foundation events, fundraising initiatives and media opportunities.
  • Provide media training and support for families at Foundation speaking engagements.
  • Maintain effective and up-to-date onboarding packages for families.
  • Document and maintain family participation information through Raiser’s Edge and Volgistics in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Recognize families for their support; align with the volunteer recognition program and with the Foundation’s recognition standards.

Writing and editing

  • Conduct interviews, and write/edit family stories that support the Foundation’s mission and highlight patient outcomes, donor impact and the Foundation’s support of excellence at the Hospital.
  • Write timely, engaging, targeted communications materials as needed – including media kits and advisories, speaking notes, special events collateral, impact reports, sponsorship packages, and brochures – using communications best practices and aligning materials with the Foundation’s brand standards.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all creative proofs and submissions.

Project management 

  • Manage, co-ordinate and/or support approved projects for teams needing M&C support to ensure timely delivery of service and quality outcomes.
  • Develop communications plans and/or tactics sheets to identify project expectations, requirements and measurable objectives.
  • Co-ordinate with graphic designer and brand strategist, and external vendors, on print production to ensure timeliness and quality.
  • Collaborate with Foundation teams to explore new donor awareness and fundraising opportunities, and to communicate impact of donor contributions on children’s health.

Other 

  • Provide media relations and social media support as needed.
  • Serve as a Foundation representative on various internal and external committees as needed.
  • Contribute to other marketing and communications as needed.
  • Develop and nurture key relationships with external stakeholders (e.g., Stollery Children’s Hospital) to facilitate effective communications.
  • Actively promote, participate in, and be an ambassador for the Foundation’s fundraising activities.

Education & experience

  • Diploma or degree in public relations, communications or equivalent; a combination of education and experience will be considered
  • 2 years of related experience in marketing and communications
  • Professional membership in CPRS or IABC an asset
  • Proven experience working with families in sensitive situations
  • History of project management in a marketing and communications environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of communications best practices
  • Strong storytelling skills and demonstrated ability to write simply, clearly and concisely using CP style (applicants may be tested during the interview process)
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills with demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated project management, organizational and time management skills with the ability to take a project from concept to completion
  • Strong oral communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient in the use of social media platforms
  • Basic understanding of design, print and web production processes
  • Thrives in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment, carrying multiple projects at once
  • Demonstrates positive, solution-focused attitude and problem-solving skills to ensure projects move forward; takes initiative and can work independently
  • Displays excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office; and database management, specifically Raiser’s Edge and Volgistics
  • Ability to work flexible hours, evening and weekends as needed
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
