Position Title: Director, Marketing and Communications

Established in 1917, the Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors (ACAC) is both the regulatory body and professional association for the nearly 1,100 chiropractors in Alberta. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in learning and then developing and driving communications and marketing plans and activities forward. The successful candidate is fortunate to both inherit a strong staff member and have the opportunity to hire a second team member based on their evaluation of department needs.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Create, manage and evaluate communications, marketing and community relations strategies – both internal and external – through a formal communications and engagement plan, editorial calendar and key messaging/brand positioning
  • Develop ACAC style guide and voice for all communications
  • Provide strategy, creation and execution of non-regulatory communications, marketing and community relations (e.g. member communications, media relations, community involvement and public service initiatives, online activities)
  • Direct and manage the marketing and promotions program including budget monitoring and projections for market research, program and advertising planning, external engagement and execution of earned and unearned media opportunities.
  • Issues and crisis management support and communications counsel to CEO and Registrar
  • Provide communications and editorial support to the regulatory arm of the ACAC through regulatory e-newsletter and other communications as needed; responsible for operational execution/distribution of these communications
  • Design and develop/coordinate content for annual reports to government and members, presentations and resource materials
  • Development of presentations for annual general meeting and other meetings as required
  • Responsible for oversight and management of communications/AV aspect of annual general meeting
  • Writing and editing assistance and coaching to all ACAC staff Administration
  • Provide appropriate leadership, mentorship, supervision, performance evaluation and guidance to direct reports
  • Report to Council on communications, marketing and community relations initiatives
  • Develop, manage and monitor marketing and communications budget
  • Support the CEO on additional projects as-needed
  • Attend ACAC or other organizational meetings as required
  • Occasional evening/weekend work and/or travel required
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Degree in external-relations focused program such as public relations, marketing and/or communications, journalism, advertising, business communications or mass communications from a post-secondary institution preferred; an equivalent combination of experience/coursework may be considered
  • 8-10+ years of progressively responsible experience in an external relations type position
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other communications/marketing platforms as appropriate
  • Understanding of current digital platforms and social media, and desire to learn and integrate emerging platforms
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strategic communications planning and implementation
  • Experience building and implementing integrated marketing communications plans
  • Project management, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent staff management and supervision skills
  • Ability to exercise judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines without compromising quality and accuracy
