Position Title: Communications and Marketing Coordinator

Position Type: Full time – permanent

Position Description and Qualifications: The Communications and Marketing Coordinator is a full-time position. The coordinator will help increase RDN’s profile across Canada, facilitate two-way exchange between RDN and its partners and publics, streamline and improve communications processes, promote RDN events and workshops, manage media and public relations, support government relations, and perform various writing tasks.


  • Develop an annual communications plan, and smaller plans for individual events or initiatives.
  • Design, produce, write and copy edit communications materials including website content, social media posts, news releases, presentations, marketing materials, print ads, etc.
  • Write and edit relevant information for RDN’s biweekly newsletter; distribute, maintain and grow the newsletter readership.
  • Media relations: distribute media release, maintain media mailing list, and facilitate media interviews and features.
  • Ensure consistency of RDN brand and feel, and expand awareness across Canada.
  • Work with the Community Development team to ensure messaging and marketing materials align, and with RDN Project and Program Managers to assist with marketing and messaging.
  • Develop and send surveys to both internal and external audiences and collate/analyse results.
  • Organize and increase the efficiency of RDN’s communications processes.
  • Perform a social media and website audit, make recommendations and implement them.
  • Assist with event planning, communications and coordination.
  • Promote RDN events such as workshops, conferences, AGMs, etc.


  • 2-5 years’ experience in a communications role would be an asset.
  • Degree or two-year diploma in Communications, Marketing, Professional Writing, or a related discipline is required. Relevant experience in lieu of formal education may be considered.
  • Writing skills are foundational to this position.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to take initiative on tasks and ask questions.
  • Critical thinking skills to fully understand intent and goals, research, analyse and plan/report.
  • Ability to plan work, create schedules and stick to timelines.
  • Experience and effective use of social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram) and scheduling tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. High level of computer program knowledge including Canva, Google, InDesign, Outlook, Survey Monkey and MailChimp.


Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, RDN staff are working virtually from home full-time. Once restrictions are lifted, RDN staff have the option of working full-time in our office, or partially from home & partially in our office. Ideally candidates would be located close to Edmonton to be able to fully participate in our work. However, our priority is to find a candidate that is the right fit for the position, and candidates located elsewhere will be considered.
