Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) is the Government of Alberta’s full-service communications, public relations and marketing agency.

CPE provides planning, execution and measurement of all communications efforts. Its expert staff provide specialized services across the spectrum of communications and marketing from research, design, writing and social media, to event coordination, issues management, digital communications, advertising and public engagement.

The agency staffs the external communications functions in all departments of government and its operations branch, with a mandate of enhancing communications between the people and the Government of Alberta.

CPE is excited to announce openings for Communications Advisor (PS 3) positions across various ministries within the Government of Alberta. This role is an excellent opportunity for those eager to provide consulting services and support to clients while collaborating closely with a team of skilled communications advisors.

As a Communications Advisor, you will play a key role in planning and attending ministerial announcements, crafting engaging communications materials, and leveraging social media and digital platforms to reach diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Plan, coordinate, write, and edit strategic communications materials, including news releases, speeches, reports, newsletters, web content, and social media posts.
  • Ensure clarity and accessibility of all materials by using plain language and appropriate formats.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and implement strategic communications plans and public engagement materials.
  • Employ creativity and innovation to tackle complex projects and challenges.
  • Organize and execute communications events and media availabilities.
  • Support cross-government communications initiatives and assist senior branch members as needed.

Qualifications

Degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, English or a related field, plus a minimum of two years of directly related communications or correspondence experience.
 

  • Experience developing communication plans
  • Strong writing and editing skills


Equivalencies to be considered as below:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
