Tammy Vineberg, APR
It is important for membership-based organizations to continually check in with their audiences. It is a regular practice for CPRS National to survey public relations practitioners, and our Edmonton chapter last conducted a survey in 2022.
The national office kicked off a discussion about the perceptions of public relations in 2017 with the assistance of Leger. The results revealed that CPRS plays a role in enhancing the code of professional standards with appropriate policies, education and training. In 2021, the first diversity and inclusion survey was conducted.
As much as we love conducting surveys to determine if our organization is headed down the right path, completing them takes time. As the saying goes, I may be preaching to the choir, but research is fundamental to setting SMART objectives. Many of our 2024-25 board members are new to their roles and we want to ensure we are capitalizing on our resources and volunteer capacity.
The 2022 CPRS Edmonton survey asked respondents to share their thoughts on resource allocation, and in-person events given the impact of the COVID pandemic. This year’s survey will help our volunteers who support our communication efforts determine the appropriate channels to communicate with you.
In today’s digital world, we are inundated with information and entertainment communications, as well as family, work, school and volunteer requests via multiple communication channels, including text, email, social media and real-time apps. It is no wonder we have a time scarcity.
Our volunteer event coordinators also want to know if the opportunities we provide interest you. CPRS National survey respondents have indicated they would like more networking and professional development opportunities. How do you prefer to connect with other professionals and students in communications and public relations?Speaking of time, we would appreciate it if you could complete the survey by December 15 for our board and volunteers to help plan for 2025. I’ll share the results in a future message.
