Description:

The Strategic Communications Coordinator is responsible for the branch’s administrative support and is the strategic communications business partner to a small portfolio of internal clients. The coordinator codes invoices, collects the branch’s analytics, oversees the Corporate Communications’ branded items inventory, assists the Digital Media Coordinator with social media tasks, and works as a backfill and support to Strategic Communications Advisors.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Branch administration (50%)
  • Coordinates the branch’s invoices and financial coding to ensure invoices are paid in a timely manner and procurement card expenses are accounted for.
  • Oversees the collection of the branch’s monthly analytics and compiles it into a report for the Manager.
  • Oversees Corporate Communications’ branded inventory, fulfills orders and assists with the procurement of new items.
  • Assists the Digital Media Coordinator with social media monitoring, content creation and the planning and execution of social media strategies.
  • Acts as the back up to the Digital Media Coordinator during EDOs and for vacation cover off.
  • Acts as the department’s Information Management contact, administers road signs and supports advertising and publication logistics.

Client support (35%)

  • Provides strategic communications advice to their client areas, with support from Strategic Communications Advisors and the Manager.
  • Executes on tactical work such briefings, speaking notes, website content, e-newsletters, news releases, social media, speeches, and presentations.
  • Oversees media requests pertaining to their area, including the drafting of responses.

Special Projects (15%)

  • Acts as project support to Strategic Communications Advisors, as assigned by the Manager.
  • Assists in executing County events.
  • Monitors social media on rotation.
  • Adheres to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, Office Administration or related discipline, plus at least 1-3 years experience in a corporate communications role and/or 3-5 years experience in administration.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong consultation skills.
  • Strong strategic planning skills.
  • Demonstrated political and business acumen.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities while meeting deadlines.


Experience with: Database Management, Data Analysis, Inventory Management and communications planning and tactics.
Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
Ability to deal with time sensitive and confidential information, with a high degree of diplomacy and professionalism.
Ability to exercise and apply sound judgment, analyze, and solve complex problems, take initiative, and make informed decisions.
Proficiency when using the Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
A minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible experience in a public communications capacity, working with multidisciplinary teams. Preference given to individuals with more experience.
Equivalent education and experience may be considered.

Assets:

  • Familiarity with municipal government operations.
  • Accreditation from any of the following are assets: the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS), or Certified Strategic Communication Management Professional (CPRS) with the Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC).
  • IAP2 certification is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and web editing software are assets.
  • Working knowledge of Canva, Hootsuite and SharePoint.
  • Direct experience working closely with C-suite leaders and elected officials.
