Inside the Strike: ATA Crisis Communications

October, 2025.
51,000 teachers walk off the job.
730,000 students stay home.

Phones light up. Media scrutiny intensifies. Families demand answers. Every statement is dissected. Every pause carries consequences. What began as a labour dispute becomes a province-wide communications crisis, unfolding in real time.

Many communicators wondered what unfolded behind closed doors at the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA): who was in the room, how messaging and narrative took shape, how spokespeople were chosen, and how critical decisions were made under relentless public scrutiny.

Inside the Strike opens that door.

CPRS Edmonton is proud to present this applied, scenario-based learning session featuring Kristine Wilkinson, Associate Coordinator of Communications at ATA, as guest speaker.

Drawing directly from the 2025 strike, she’ll walk us through the real decisions, pressures, and trade-offs behind one of Alberta’s most significant labour actions.
